My A to Z Challenge Reflections post

A-to-Z Reflection [2015] - LgWelcome to my A to Z Challenge Reflections post!  First off, thanks so much to the organizers. Well done, folks.
🙂
This is my third year sharing my particular interests in history and historical science. I’m disappointed to say this year’s visitor numbers were considerably lower than last year. I had outstanding numbers last year and gained quite a few blog followers from both 2013 and 2014’s challenges.  I didn’t see that this year. I promoted the same so I’m not sure why the results were so much less. Still, I really enjoy mining information, so in that respect I had a blast. I have big plans for all my A to Z posts and every year gives me more to work with.
That said, I’m grateful to the organizers for a reason to write them!

Here’s my month of posts. By far, the most popular was N for Necropolis Railway. The least was P for Prehistoric Pigment. Do scroll down and enjoy. The information is unusual and fun and if you like to learn as much as I do, there are links to take each topic further.

A for Archaeoastronomy
B for (Linear) B
C for Chladni & Cymatics
D for Dreaded Sweat
E for Echo
F for Frost Fair
G for Ghost Ship
H for Heaven & Hell Clubs
I for Ice Harvesting
J for Jersey Devil
K for Kaleidoscope
M for Monopoly
L for Legends & Lies
N for Necropolis Railway
O for Overtoun “dog suicide” Bridge
P for Prehistoric Pigment
Q for Quills & Pens
R for Rat King
S for Spectacles
T for Tree Circus
U for Ukulele
V for Volkswagen
W for Witching
X for XOXO
Y for Yo-yo
Z for Zildjian cymbals

As far as suggestions go, I would love to be on a mailing list that sends a reminder email in March saying the A to Z Challenge sign-up is on. I checked the site several times a month since the first week in January because I just didn’t know when it opened. If the date for sign-up was posted somewhere, I missed that info.

I visited quite a few participant blogs when time permitted and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I hope to do the A to Z Challenge again next year.

Thanks again!

  1. I received many comments this year but I didn’t notice much uptick in followers. Congrats on finishing.

  2. I am just finding you through your reflection. This was my 3rd year to participate too. My reflection has some opinions about what works and what doesn’t. Thinking about your comment about site visits, I only know that the more blogs I visited, left a comment, the more people returned the favor. It is such a large list, and because I am a writer, I started with the (WR) blogs as a place to start. I also wrote about the sites that don’t have a category might not get cheery picked. If either of these things were you, that may explain. I will be back to visit after I catch my breath. Congrats on finishing,

  4. I’m sorry you didn’t see the same results that you did in the past challenges. My numbers were lower as well and I’ve attribited it to my lengthy posts. I realize now that many people probably skipped over some of my longer entries. I also hosted a mini challenge – a crime fiction murder mystery and rather than intice more people to read, as was my goal, I’m afraid that people who stopped by in the middle didn’t feel like playing catch up . I offered a grand prize- a Kindle Fire to the winner . I should have spent more time enticing people to read with shorter entries that didn’t require following from the beginning . Oh well, live and learn . It would have worked better, if I had signed up sooner and had a better opportunity to promote the contest and prizes . As for followers, I dont count followers as much as I do people who leave comments . For one thing , the majority of my “followers,” never leave comment and I doubt they even read my blog. Another reason I don’t count followers anymore is because so many of us read and comment on blogs from our phone. On my phone , I never even see the follow me option . I only see it from my laptop or desktop.

I’m glad you still enjoyed the challenge. I think your theme and entries sound amazing. I’m adding your blog to my reader now so
I can read more now that the challenge is over.

I am number 424 on the reflection post sign up list.

Good Reflections. Congratulations on another year of the Challenge. It’s interesting to hear some like you say that your numbers were lower while others say theirs were higher. Don’t know how to explain that, but maybe we’ll figure that one out eventually.

An email newsletter is something the A to Z Team has on our discussion list. We did make frequent announcements about the sign ups. If you don’t follow the A to Z Challenge Facebook page then you might do that since a lot of announcements appear there and you can ask questions that are normally answered fairly quickly.

Thanks for joining us this year and look forward to having you back with us in 2016.
