I wish there were some way to get the etymology of the word. It should be able to be broken into parts.
I know what you mean, Ray. This one is literal: Ut = Old English for “out” and Legi = Latin for law.
I think I figured out most of it from looking up legation and legate. Sent out as a representative, utlegaton would be someone sent out on his/her own.
Funny how we’re working this at the same time. 🙂 lol
