Sneak Peek Sunday ~

I’ve recently discovered a new Sunday hop to fill the void left by the closing of Six Sentence Sunday.
It’s called
Sneak Peek Sunday!
The idea is to post six paragraphs (no more, no less) from either a work in progress (WIP) or a published work. I have lots to choose from.  :)

Here’s a sneak peek from my Loving Leonardo — A Victorian polyamorous love story, with a touch of reader-interactive art history. This portion from the beginning of the tale involves Ellie knocking on Nicolas’ door and  proposing marriage to a man completely comfortable with his life to this point. Needless to say he’s shocked that this stranger, this bold-as-brass American, would suggest such a thing.

I rubbed the point between my eyes.

She asked, “As a friend, may I leave your title aside and call you Nicolas?” At my nod she continued. “Nicolas, I’m no fool. For all that I’m a progressive woman: I live in a man’s world. And while society may change in the future, I’m hindered in the here and now. It would be difficult to travel on my own, and certainly tracking down homoerotic artworks would be next to impossible for a woman. I wouldn’t even know how to ask about them; trained proficient I’m not. Were we to marry, I see advantage for the both of us outside this venture.”

“Advantage?”

“Yes, you’ll be free to love who you will without society casting rude speculations your way. And aside from my being free to be who I am, I’ll benefit by a social standing that will allow me to affect change from within society.”

I considered her a moment. Miss Elenora Schwaab was an extremely pleasant-looking young woman with her wise blue eyes and cinnamon hair. She was fit and fashionable, and without a doubt a highly-educated and intelligent person. Her ready humor and matter-of-factness were also quite appealing. Yes, I could see myself enjoying this woman’s companionship if nothing else.

Running down a list of potential advantages of marrying someone not shocked or repulsed by my nature, I surprised myself by finding her proposal no less than brilliant. Many marriages started with far less. Still, there was one bit that must be addressed. It had always been my understanding that one day I’d be pressed to marry and sire children. When one inherits the title of Earl, especially a Halstead Earl, there are responsibilities one must naturally live up to. But until that hourglass ran out, I considered myself free to love and enjoy whom I would. To be fair she’d have to be told. “I must tell you that I have obligations to my title and estate. These obligations would necessitate my producing an heir in the future.”

Sneak Peek Sunday!

I really enjoyed being a part of the Six Sentence Sunday where many authors got together and did a mini hop to feature a six-sentence teaser from their novels. You’d be surprised how much you can say in six sentences. Personally, I loved the challenge of finding six lines that encapsulated scenes from my books. The SundaySix ceased to be and for many left a void.
I’ve recently discovered this fabulous new Sunday hop called Sneak Peek Sunday!
The idea is to post six paragraphs (no more, no less) from either a work in progress (WIP) or a published work. I can do that! :)

ww1Here’s an evocative six from my soon-to-be-released book 2 in The Witchy Wolf and the Wendigo story. Setting the Stage: Ash explains to Livie that they must head north to the reservation because Eluwilssit the Spider lives and they’re all in danger.

Eluwilussit. Out of nowhere an image formed in her mind then quickly evaporated. A queasy sensation settled in the pit of her stomach.

“In John’s story, he was called the Spider. In this time, he’s taken the name Eli White. When John showed my bird stone to his family, Eluwilussit saw it as well. He told them he wished to see the dog who wore it. He knows what I am now, and John’s family believes he’s left the reservation and comes to find me. Of this I have no doubt. He comes looking for my death and for this.” He pulled the bird stone from his pocket.

She looked at the stylized granite bird, taken off his bloody body the night they’d thought they were saving the life of a wolf-crossed dog. “Why does he want it?”

“Because I am a holy man, a Midewi. I’m able to go to Sky Father’s camp in the White World where the ancestors dwell. This bird flies my mind there.” He turned the stone over in his hand. “In the White World I’m able to speak to the ancestors. If I ask for their guidance to help my people, they’ll help me. I no longer have people as I once did. But I have you and John and Cora, and the ancestors have told me to protect you.”

“From Eluwilussit? He doesn’t even know us!” Olivia had never considered herself a fearful person. That’s not how she was raised. But a growing unease was settling over her.

Not wanting to frighten her, Ash calmly tucked the stone back into his pocket and took her hands in his. “No, he doesn’t know you, but that doesn’t matter. He wants to steal everything I hold dear — my bird stone, my friends, and my life. This is why we must follow John and Cora. I must keep you somewhere safe until he and I have finished what he began long ago.”

Here’s the trailer ~

And here’s the true root of the story at USA Today — The Witchy Wolf and the Wendigo

Six Sentence Sunday!…& things to come.

It’s Six Sentence Sunday! Can six interesting evocative sentences make you want more? Let’s see.  Here are my six from my newest release Loving Leonardo.

My Six:

Self-declared progressive or not, I had the distinct impression my new wife had never seen a man in the flesh; a curious notion in light of the customary boldness I’d come to anticipate. I dropped the hand that held the towel to my side and let her look. That she didn’t excuse herself was telling, though I wondered if she tested me or herself.

I found utterly fascinating her brassy determination to prove she was unfazed to see me thus. Her eyes traveled my person from head to toe and lingered half-way. In some unanticipated biological response, I felt my cock swell.

Bound by limits dictated by society, Art Historian Nicolas Halstead lived a guarded life until a tempest in the form of Elenora Schwaab blew into his world. At first Nicolas can’t decide if the audacious American is simply mad or plotting blackmail for not only does she declare knowledge of his homosexuality, she offers him a marriage proposal.

After Ellie tells him of a previously unknown work of Leonardo da Vinci, a book of erotic love poems and sketches dedicated to the artist’s long-time lover Salai, Nicolas joins her in a race to save the book from destruction. Along the way they encounter Historian Luca Franco and discover a comfortable compatibility that comes to redefine their long-held notions of love. The trio embarks on an adventure of sensual discovery, intrigue, and danger. Little do they know Leonardo da Vinci’s book is far more than meets the eye.

Tempted? I hope so! :D

Madness and method. Initially I made a blogspot blog for myself but wasn’t thrilled by the limitations. The images in my head were much more than what these humble hands could do with those simple tools. Then I made this one. And I’m not thrilled by the limitations here either.  I just can’t get it to look how I want. Call me picky. :)  I had plans to make a WordPress website but what they call simple makes me look like a chimp fishing for termites with a twig. After trying and exhausting my brain, I decided to put my creativity where it needed to be for the time being – in my novels.

I really do have plans for an actual website sometime in 2013. The blog will be attached to it and I’ll still muse away like I do now, but I’ll also have room to showcase the fabulous authors I’ve met along the way.

Another Six Sentence Sunday!

Here’s a teaser — six evocative sentences from my newest release Loving Leonardo.

Nicolas and Ellie share their mutual attraction for Luca.

My Six:

Truth be told, it was more than lust that I felt.

Our friendship and comfort with Luca had grown through our common interests. But there was much more between us. We both wanted him in what could only be described as a tangible desire for deeper intimacy with a kindred spirit. Finding Luca sensually compelling the way we did, he unknowingly came to play an intermittent role during our intimate explorations of one another. The fantasy of him was shared between our kisses and caresses of the night before.

I finally got that Loving Leonardo youtube book trailer slowed down to a readable pace. Oh my god what an ordeal.

The program I used for the video is a most infuriating program. Why? Microsoft Movie Maker has some damnable glitch in the code and everyone who uses it knows it. The message boards are FILLED with people talking about this and NOT ONE answer. I got an error message or a complete crash over and over and over again. I downloaded, used, growled, fumed, deleted, downloaded, used growled, deleted, searched for a software fix, downloaded, used growled, fumed, cursed, deleted etc etc etc. All told I did this about 10 times. 10 times!! In the end I loaded what I thought was ok, but no, I had to do it again. And again. Each got on youtube with freezes, glitches, distortion etc.

I even abandoned Mozilla Firefox as my browser and opted for the Google Chrome browser because I was out of options.  I got it up and running after three times. This end product has a few pixel issues but for now at least it’s slow enough to read. When I have more time, I’ll find another movie program or just remake it in Powerpoint.  What do you think?

It’s Six Sentence Sunday & Daylight Savings Time!

Once again, I’ve set out a teaser — six evocative sentences from my newest release Loving Leonardo. Being hitched to the Six Sentence Sunday site has been a fun tag-a-long that’s broadened my web exposure immensely. I’m sad to see this weekly event coming to a close.

Compatibility growing comfortably in the close confines of the ship, Nicolas, Ellie, and Luca share an afternoon discussing Leonardo da Vinci.

My Six:

I believe we were all aware of a sexual tension growing in the intellectual-rich loam. There were little things at play now: the way Ellie moistened her lips and looked at us with eyes that lingered from one to the other. The way Luca’s irises had darkened from snow shadow to moon shadow as he looked upon her. The way I’d catch myself with a reminder to breathe as my eye was drawn to these small distinctions. Like da Vinci’s sfumato, our mutual attraction hung in the air, and I was struck by the notion that the smoky quality depicted in his art was desire. Desire like this.

The Art of Formula & The Romance Review’s party details

An author’s life involves more than the creation of literary worlds, it’s an endless sea of self-promoting. It’s necessary because there’s also a Grand Canyon full of books out there and people won’t read yours unless they find them. Now there’s a needle in a haystack. For an introverted person such as I, this takes no less than monumental effort.

Beyond that, I was told early on that the backlist, that stack of previous novels written, was the path to success. It’s definitely a slow go. My stories come to me one line at a time. I’m not a formula writer so I can’t mechanically churn out plug-n-play stories. I find it fascinating that some people can do this successfully. It sort of looks like this…

Story – It doesn’t matter when or where or even who, but the hero must marry against his will or lose his inheritance.

He is:
A. A playboy in London high society 1818
B. A Viking in 900AD
C. The son of a prosperous American Industrialist 1915
D. The hereditary leader of a Vampiric coven 2012

She is:
A. A penniless orphan with an undiscovered royal lineage
B. A Celtic high priestess
C. A salesperson in a high end department store living on public assistance
D. A goth chick working at an all-night diner.

External forces working against a happy outcome = their obvious differences.
It can simply be he chafes at the idea, acts like a jerk, but inexplicably falls in love anyway or love triumphs despite one of these:

A. It’s hard to break into the social strata lacking social graces
B. It’s hard to get over the pesky master/slave relationship
C. It’s hard to explain to wealthy mom and dad that she’s the working class
D. It’s hard to get past the deadly love you/love your blood boundaries

There you go. I’ve just created four separate books out of one story line. I know of authors who crank out a book a month using this formula. I have to wonder though… do repeat readers eventually burn out on all the same stuff different day scenarios? I wonder because I’ve had this happen to me and it was like a long time love affair had ended for me. As a reader, I have my favorite authors. I’ve read one for 20 years. Last year I eagerly bought her latest and couldn’t get past the third chapter. Damn. I’d read it before…several times. Only the names, dates, characters and location were different than the last several books she’d written. The fan I was never saw it until that moment.   I sorted through the years to my favorites and kept those on the shelf. The formula books had to go because I knew my reading tastes had moved on. Sad business that.

As a writer, I don’t think I could put the emotion I do into formula books. Still…the idea of the mega backlist appeals to me!  :)

>>>oOo<<<

Eleven months of health drama immobilized my author promotion. During all that, I mainly focused on writing. Since launching Loving Leonardo, I’ve gotten back in the swing of things. In other words, I’ve put myself out there again.  :D

I’ve scheduled several blog appearances and interviews for November and December in anticipation of the big Kindle sales. One of these is the large month-long Year-End Splash Party 2012 on November 15th held by The Romance Reviews. The ad poster came today and until the promo party starts ends at midnight on December 15th, anyone stopping by will see it here.  I’ll blog all the other useful things too.

You’ve seen the small banner ad at the end of each blog post I put on. TheRomanceReview.com (TRR) really is a terrific site for Romance readers – they have reviews, the latest news in the world of romance literature, and reader contests. And for authors, they have a bevy of author-related things to highlight and showcase our works. I’ve always found them friendly people too.

The Year-End Splash Party 2012 features more than 200 authors, several publishers, and more than 200 prizes. Like I said, it’s a large event. Between now and November 15th, I’ll be busy putting together my event contributions. I plan on offering excerpts and author insights from all of my published novels and a few of my up-and-coming works. I’ll also offer a few mini-contests.

My New Novel Launches Any Day Now!

 Happy Halloween!

I’ve always loved this spooky holiday. On the day dedicated to things that go bump in the night, I’m offering a peek at my new soon-to-be-release novel,   The Witchy Wolf and the Wendigo.

Several years ago while taking a much touted artists tour, I wandered into a barn converted into an artist   studio and found a new author sitting beside a stack of books. This curious book with its B-movie cover was all about the Wisconsin werewolf. At the time, I was less fascinated by werewolves than I was by anyone who’d managed to get published. In the days before email submissions, Indy publishers, and self-publishing, I was at the point where I could write a book about rejection letters!

Needless to say, I stood talking to the author. Of course after picking her brain as best I could, I bought the book. It seemed only right that I do. While my husband drove us from art studio to art studio, I read passages to him. The story was pretty farfetched but entertaining. Eyewitnesses claimed to have seen a wolf walking like a man. We knew the areas mentioned in the book and some of the sightings of this weird creature had supposedly taken place over decades. Back home, I went digging for more. Apparently the Ojibwe legends in the Great Lakes region mention a magical wolf or dog that guards burials.

That caught my attention. Legends of grave guardians around the world often take the form of wolves or dogs. Then there’s that jackal-headed Anubis from ancient Egypt. Wasn’t he the Lord of the Dead? Beyond that, Wisconsin was covered in ancient Native American burial and effigy mounds. One of the stories in that book went back to the 1930’s and took place on top of a burial mound. Needing more information, we took the Great Mound Tour across Wisconsin into Iowa. I saw these effigies and burials for myself, what was left of them.

And my imagination went wild!

My cover is nearly finished and I expect my novel to launch within the next two weeks. In the spirit of Halloween, I offer this fanciful peek into an actual legend. Remember, all legends have a grain of truth in them.

Here’s  my announcement card front and back.

Blurb:
What does an immortal Native American shaman do when the grave he’s sworn to watch over for all eternity disappears under urban development?

His purpose of guarding his wife’s burial mound is gone, Ashkewheteasu seeks to end his immortal existence. In his despair, he assumes the form of a wolf and steps in front of a moving car and into the life of Dr. Olivia “Livie” Rosalini. The veterinarian saves the animal’s life, and in the process saves the man within. Unbeknownst to Livie, the dog she’s taken into her home and grows to love is a magical being seeking to win her heart as a man. While Ash is learning a new world filled with new love, friendship, and happiness, an old menace makes plans to steal it all away; just as he had 3000 years before.

The True Beginning

Ten years ago, a reporter for a small-town newspaper heard word of strange dawn and dusk sightings of a wolf-like creature roaming the Wisconsin countryside. Her investigation revealed that local police officials had initially taken these calls lightly, but this had changed when calls began coming from upstanding citizens.

Authorities had determined what these eyewitnesses had actually seen was a lone wolf broken off from a pack running in the wilds of northern Wisconsin. Young male wolves seeking to start a new pack are known to strike off on their own. Leaving the vast stretches of wooded landscape, they might travel one hundred miles in a day. It seemed likely. But the witnesses were adamant that what they’d seen had been no ordinary wolf. This wolf walked like a man.

Intrigued, the reporter collected the stories. To her surprise, other witnesses came forward telling of sightings that they’d never reported. In fact, some eyewitness accounts had occurred more than seventy years prior, the details only whispered to relatives who were sworn to secrecy lest friends and neighbors think heavy drinking was involved. These stories she also collected, for she knew hushed secrecy was not a direction fame-seekers usually take.

More curious now, the reporter deepened her investigation and uncovered another bizarre detail: the sightings were mentioned in ancient oral traditions of the Native Americans in the region. In those tales, dog men or witchy wolves looked after burial mounds in much the same way jackal-headed Anubis guarded the tombs of ancient Egypt. And even more bizarre, early French explorers knew of them too. They called these wolf-men the loup-garou.

Chapter 1

Good lord it’s hot. Pulling her blue bandana from her back pocket, Cora mopped the sweat from her brow and mentally tallied the extras needed for the next day: Gatorade, ice, definitely more shade tarps. She’d only found out at nine o’clock the night before that this unique otter effigy mound was being plowed under — greedy bastards with friends in high places had an industrial park to build. With only a few hours’ notice, they’d thrown the dig together and as a result, were unprepared for the oppressive August heat. Worse, they had just one week to do the archeological excavation, and this heat wave was expected to last for a week or more. Surprised by the heat of the metal against her lips, Cora took a sip from her steel water bottle and frowned. The water was hot enough to steep tea in. Checking her watch, she eyed the sky through a haze of humidity. The angle of the afternoon sun would soon make conditions even more unbearable for her staff.

It was hard to miss red-faced Cherise standing by the screen tables. Heading that way, Cora’s frown deepened. The woman’s normally parchment-pale skin was mottled with exertion, her bright red face almost as brilliant as the flaming orange-red tendrils of hair peeking from under her wide-brimmed straw hat. Weighing their safety against the time they didn’t have, there was simply no choice. The oppressive heat was dangerous. That’s enough, I’m calling it.

Drawing the attention of her crew, she told them, “All right, pack it in for the day, people. Let’s go home. It’s too hot out here!”

Cherise said, “Just finishing up a load, boss.”

“Okay, don’t rush.”

The work would need to be covered. Cora unfolded the blue plastic tarps while she waited for the junior archeologist to finish sifting the soil they’d dug from the opened mound. She glanced down at the ancient skeleton long since disjointed. Visible legs, lower arms,  pelvic and bottommost rib bones lay partially exposed. Cherise shook the frame. Small bone and artifacts remained on the screen while soil fell through the mesh to mound below. White flecks on the tray catching her eye, Cora held up a hand to halt the sifting.

Cherise stopped and mopped her brow with the back of her hand and left a muddy streak across her forehead. She helped pick the artifacts from the larger clumps. Carefully crumbling the chunks with their fingers, they found more than a dozen freshwater pearls, several pearlescent nacre disks cut from the inside of mussel shells, and a tiny white fang with a small hole drilled in it to make a bead.

Cora blew dirt off the fang to get a better look. “A fox tooth, I think. And more pearls.”

“Yep, close to fifty pearls in this load alone.” Cherise picked out three more pearls and wiped them off as best she could before turning them out of her grimy palm into Cora’s hand.

“Fifty pearls from this one load?”

“Mmm hmm.” Cherise passed over six more pearls, two nacre disks, and another fox fang bead.

“If we’re finding that many in a single sift, this was a woman of standing. Her necklace must have contained several ropes of pearls rather than a strand. I think it safe to say that the closer we get to the skull, the more we’ll find.”

It was no small feat to drill pearls and teeth and cut shell disks. Cora considered the opened burial. The delineated soil variations reinforced her earlier opinion that this was a rare intaglio mound. Not all burial or effigy mounds were done in the round like this one. The image had been cut into the ground then all the soil removed to create an exact whole-body impression of the animal effigy. The soil was then put back in and more was added until a three-dimensional mound was made. This one was otter-shaped. If it were possible to remove only the otter shape from the soil, it would be a perfect three-dimensional design. She voiced her opinion to the woman beside her.

“I think you’re right.” Cherise pointed a grubby finger. “See there? The variations are very clear at the left femur.”

Stooping to get a better look, Cora said, “Ooh yeah. There’s obvious basket mounding, and over here I see evidence of mounding below the remains too. That’s intaglio, all right.” She shook her head at the tremendous loss. It was a crime to destroy such an amazing archeological treasure. Her mind quickly composed the phone calls she’d make first thing in the morning to try to get more time to do this excavation right instead of rushing. It was someone’s grave after all. But final resting place for a woman held in high regard by her people or not, there was no hope of canceling the project all together. Money talked louder than she ever could.

Cherise hosed the trowels with water from the pump pack. “What do you think that extra work was for? I mean, dig out the shape with stone and bone tools, then fill in the shape again one basket full of dirt at a time until the shape is also above ground?”

“A little labor intensive don’t you think?”

Cherise nodded. “A little.”

“To us this seems like a lot of effort, but this is a fraction of the effort the ancient Egyptians devoted to their dead. If you care that the departed travel to the spirit realm, you do what your culture determines the best method of travel to be.”

The flow of the hose was weakening. Cherise pumped more air pressure into the water pump.

It was obvious the young woman’s energy was waning. Placing a hand on the handle, Cora cautioned her red-faced associate, “Stop now, you look exhausted and you’re as red as a beet with that sunburn.”

The younger woman looked her arms. “Ooh. That’s gonna hurt. I must have sweated off the sunscreen. Great, more freckles.” She murmured the last under her breath.

Doubting the junior archeologist had been drinking enough, Cora picked up Cherise’s water bottle and handed it over. “Here, drink. Freckles will be the least of your problems if you get heat stroke.”

Cherise took a swig and wrinkled her nose. “Jesus, that’s hot.”

Cora covered the sifting screen with a blue tarp. “Take a cool shower when you get home. Drink for God’s sake, and get some rest.”

“Yeah, I could use a cold beer right about now.”

“So could I, but I was referring to water.”

“Sure you were, boss.” Cherise chuckled and handed over the bungee cords that would secure the plastic cover to the table. “You know it’s going to be near one hundred again tomorrow. High humidity like today too. We should start earlier, huh?”

Cora let her breath out slowly, deciding what to do. Coming in early was the last thing she wanted because John was taking her out on their bimonthly rain-or-shine date tonight. Good judgment won the internal debate. “Okay. We’ll come in early and finish this pile before the heat of the day. She jerked her thumb to the small stand of oaks. “We’ll bag and catalog under the fly in the shade over there. Go home and cool off. I’ll finish up here.”

“Will do.”

Cora waved to the others, “See you in the morning guys. We’re starting at six to beat the heat. Don’t forget to drink water tonight to rehydrate, and eat a pretzel or something like that. You’ll need the salt.” Her words were met with nods and good byes.

Alone now, Cora crouched beside the opened mound and carefully unrolled the last sheet of plastic canvas. Before she turned to walk away, she spoke softly, as if the bones could hear. “I’m so sorry we’re disturbing your peace. I wish I could have stopped all this, but I’m powerless.” That said, she followed the others.

A large curious field mouse scurried over the top of the burial mound. He watched the people, his gaze pulling time and again first to the fire-haired young woman leaving with the others, then to the slightly older woman who’d stayed behind to spread a cloth over the soil with obvious care.

Sensing the people were gone, the mouse drew a deep breath. Suddenly his form changed from mouse to rabbit, from rabbit to fox, and then from fox into a wolf with unusual black markings on its face. This higher vantage allowed him to check the area before continuing. Confident he was alone, his legs lengthened as he slowly shifted from wolf on four legs to a wolf on two. His muzzle shortened, as did his ears. A moment later he stood as a man.

His throat tightened as he walked amongst the tables and pails. A small bone caught his eye and he bent to pick it up. He stared a long while, seeing but not seeing the hand it belonged to so long ago. It was his task to watch over this resting place, and his task alone. Coming here later than usual today, there was nothing he could do to stop the white man’s destruction. His eyes filled with tears as his fist closed around the finger bone. Slumping to the ground, he sobbed in anguished sorrow.

:) Not too shabby a Halloween story, eh?

Have a Happy Halloween!

Another Sunday, another Six!

Can six evocative sentences capture imagination and inspire interest? I hope so! Without further ado — another six from my newest release — Loving Leonardo.

My Six:

Sitting at my table was a statue carved in marble by Gian Lorenzo Bernini; an artist known for his remarkable ability to capture the essence of a narrative moment. And I found Luca Franco to be exactly that — a moment indelibly captured in time — a moment of meeting the mind could revisit in its entirety.

From every angle, he was beautifully made: black-haired, of medium build, and physically fit. He possessed a warm hue to his skin, his lineage no doubt stamped centuries past by the darker Moors or Turks. In startling contrast, and quite handsomely framed by black lashes, he had striking eyes the color one might see in a shadow falling across snow — not quite sky blue nor exactly steel gray, but a blending of the two in gradated rings.

I rose to shake his hand and felt the unmistakable current of compatibility.

Oo~~oOoOoOo~~oO

I lost some launch momentum going off to the east coast for a week like I did. In hindsight, launching Loving Leonardo’s free promotion days should have been postponed until my return. Ah live and learn. I was new to kindle and Amazon publishing and didn’t quite get how it all worked. I have a much clearer idea what’s what now. After a sluggish week, my book is finally seeing action again.  Yay! And it received a terrific review just the other day:

I don’t normally like first person, but this book pulled me in from the start and wouldn’t let go. It was beautifully written. Also, when it comes to erotic, I’m a graphic kind of girl with a sextreme rating. Loving Leonardo was neither really, and yet, hands down, it was the most erotic book I have ever had the pleasure of reading. I loved the ending and the way it signaled to a sequel. I can’t wait. Ms Anderson, please hurry up and write it. I’m first in the queue for a copy.

That’s exactly the kind of book I like to read! Pull me in, capture and hold both my interest and my imagination, warm me, and make me eager for the rest of the story. I love the absolutes in this review. I’m smiling from ear to ear. :D

**

I’m 5 chapters from finishing Loving Leonardo: The Quest. The sequel goes to the editor in January and I expect an early spring release. I’ve enjoyed these three characters so much, that it wouldn’t surprise me if Nicolas, Ellie, and Luca knock on my imagination at a later date and tell me they want another adventure. The possibilities are endless for an art historian and a professor of antiquities both working for the esteemed Ashmolean museum at the turn of the last century. Given Ellie’s progressive American views, it wouldn’t be beyond the pale if she got them all involved in some great adventure. And of course Queen Victoria’s jubilee is coming up….oooh I feel a story coming on!

And speaking of stories, my edits are back and I’ve finished scanning all but the final three chapters of my soon-to-be-released first book entitled: The Witchy Wolf and the Wendigo. My artists (yes I have two) have ideas. I know the cover artist will convey the story at a glance. That’s the sort of work he does. My other artist is a man of detail and is making me an inside map at the suggestion of my editor. I liked that idea! When I launch this one, I’ll post the impetus for the story. It’s a fascinating urban legend and many swear it’s true.
Here’s a teaser:

While Ash is learning a new world filled with new love, friendship, and happiness, an old menace makes plans to steal it all away — just as he had 3000 years before.

Soon…very soon.

Another six for Six Sentence Sunday!

It’s another Six Sentence Sunday! The idea is to find six interesting evocative sentences from your novel and put them out as a teaser. Without further ado — another six from my newest release — Loving Leonardo.

My Six:

Inserting the glass stopper in the bottle, she set it and snifters aside. “Nicolas, we’ve only recently met, and while I grow fonder of you by the day I’m not feeling jealousy, if that’s your concern. I do understand that you have needs that must be seen to. Homosexuality exists in the natural world, therefore is a natural chapter in the book of life, don’t you agree?”

I nodded. In my inebriation, she might have said Father Christmas was a hedgehog who took tea with the Queen and I would have agreed.

It is a fun read if I do say so myself. :)
